I'm sorry about your dad. Know I'm thinking of you and your dear family and will write to your mom.

I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing over.  I just saw him out a few days ago and he looked well, such shocking news!   Jerilee Malley will try to keep us posted but please let us know if there is anything you need or any way we can be of help during this difficult time.  You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Please accept our deepest and dearest condolences from Donna and myself. We are really in shock, and very deeply saddened. It was only about three weeks ago that we visited your dad and mom and had dinner with them in Long Beach. It was truly a wonderful and extremely festive dinner, during which we reminisced about decades of common memories. We had made tentative plans to visit with them again in December and continue our conversations where we had left off. I asked your dad to do some thinking about faster-than-light particles so we could discuss it. Although we have not met often in the past ten to fifteen years, your dad was always present to me as one of my oldest and dearest friends, and it was a delightful and comforting thought to know that I could pick up the phone, or take a plane, and be with him any time. When we come to California in December, we will be sure to spend time with your mom.

I’m very sorry to hear about your dad, Karl.  I met him a few times and was always impressed by his grace, strength and love for family.  He had a tough life, didn’t get a fair shake, but came through with a dignity that, along with your mom's, was inspirational.  I could tell too how proud he was of you and your accomplishments.

This branch of the Kites, currently in Kobe, Helsinki and Minneapolis, wanted to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers on Jerry's death. Even with the past summer's experience when you were all concerned and troubled by his declining health, it still came as a shock to have him leave us so unexpectedly.

The Landing will be a different place without him, as will Long Beach and his legion of friends and deep thinkers.

Leslie and I are so sad to hear the news. 

I can't describe how important Jerry is to me. I close my eyes and remember playing Go together, exploring the very first Apple Macintosh, driving through Long Beach, Syracuse, and Israel --- and of course the 1984 Summer Olympics. 

Thanks to Jerry, I did some calculations. It turns out I owe 42% of my joke repertoire to him, as well as my recipe for pickled Eggs and Jerritos.  Coincidentally, I made Jerritos for my daughter for lunch just last Friday, the day before I heard the news. 

We send you and Camryn and Lisa and the children our condolences. And special hugs for Sylvia. I am so sorry I won't be able to make it out to California for the celebration on Friday. I will call Sylvia next week.

We will miss Jerry immeasurably.

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad.  I'm also thinking about your mother.  This must be particularly difficult for Sylvia.  Your family is very important to us.  I won't be in Los Angeles on Thursday or Friday, but my thoughts will be will be with you.
